AGRICULTURE AND LIVESTOCK SUPERVISOR

The Agriculture and Livestock Supervisor is responsible for the running of the farm and agricultural team. Tasks and responsibilities will shift throughout the year between in-season and off-season activities. They include the planning and development of garden spaces on site with regenerative farming practices in mind, care and training of animals, sharing duties with the Teamster, product development and the presentation of exterior spaces within Sherbrooke Village.

TEAMSTER
Position is open until filled
The Teamster is responsible for the care of animals, farm maintenance, training and exercise of horses, and delivering wagon rides. The Teamster will also support interpretation, programs and events relating to these areas of Village interpretive themes, and the farm maintenance and agriculture team with other projects as needed. During the season, they must wear a costume as provided by the Wardrobe department. The Teamster works in tandem with Interpreters, Gardeners, Landscapers and Farm Assistants with support from the Agriculture and Livestock Supervisor to ensure Sherbrooke Village’s livestock, gardens and outdoor spaces are cared for with a high standard of excellence.

WARDROBE FABRICATOR (TERM CONTRACT)

The Wardrobe Fabricator’s primary responsibility is to carry out the production needs of the wardrobe department, especially the drafting and cutting of patterns, as determined by the Wardrobe Supervisor. The Wardrobe Fabricator is also responsible for providing assistance to the Wardrobe Supervisor in attending to all functions of the Wardrobe Department of Sherbrooke Village. This includes caring for all period pieces worn by Village Staff, conducting visual inspections, logging work orders, pulling necessary stock and performing inventory control of all costumes and accessories. The Wardrobe Fabricator will also be required to assist the Wardrobe Supervisor in the research, presentation and instruction of staff in the area historical costumes.

The Landscape Gardener is responsible for preparing flower and vegetable gardens, planting and harvesting, landscaping (mowing, weeding, trimming, etc,), pruning trees and caring for gardens, interpreting and demonstrating heritage farm practices. They are also responsible for the maintenance of tools used to perform a variety of work on the grounds at the various site locations and may be called upon to support farm maintenance activities.
The Landscape Gardener may also provide tours of the gardens, plant and harvest the vegetable gardens and support product development. Sherbrooke Village is seeking a Special Event Manager to coordinate “Christmas at Sherbrooke Village” – our signature winter festival. This role involves engaging local volunteers and partners to deliver outdoor community activities; and working with Museum departments to develop thematic programming. This opportunity builds on three decades of the award-winning volunteer-led Old-Fashioned Christmas at Sherbrooke Village. Through this and all other programming, we seek to improve the enjoyment and understanding of authentic Nova Scotian histories through our interpretive programs and to create remarkable experiences in our unique 19th century rural village setting.
This role works closely with different internal and external teams, including volunteer recruitment and coordination, to realize an ambitious revitalized festival utilizing the strengths of our rural community. It also aims to attract new audiences to the District of St. Mary’s in the off-season..
